About

Gen Z Japan

Hi, I’m Haruki.

Welcome to Gen Z Japan! I am a 23-year-old native Japanese writer and professional translator based in Japan and Canada.

I was born and raised in Japan, soaking up the culture, food, and trends for over 20 years. After graduating from university in Japan, I started working as a translator to bridge the gap between Japanese and English speakers.

Why I started this blog Have you ever felt that travel guidebooks only show you the “tourist” side of Japan? Temples and shrines are beautiful, but Japan is so much more than that.

I created this blog to share the “Real Japan” from a local Gen Z perspective. My goal is to help you:

  • Navigate local manners and etiquette (so you don’t feel awkward!).
  • Find “Anime Pilgrimage” spots that aren’t on Google Maps.
  • Discover hidden ramen shops and cafes where locals actually go.

I want to be your Japanese friend who tells you the secret spots, not just a tour guide.

3 Fun Facts About Me

  • Anime Geek: I’m a huge fan of manga and anime. (Ask me about Jujutsu Kaisen!)
  • Cat Lover: I absolutely love cats.
  • Driving & Coffee: My perfect day off involves a long drive with a good cup of coffee.

Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope my articles help make your trip to Japan unforgettable!
